Principal Machine Learning Engineer, Embodied AI and Smart NPCs

Overview Roblox is hiring a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to develop embodied AI and behavioral agents for complex 3D gameplay and Smart NPCs. The role blends research and production work across imitation learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision, and large-scale real-time deployment. Responsibilities Lead the technical direction for Game AI and Embodied Intelligence while contributing hands-on to model design and implementation. - Design and implement foundation models for embodied agents - Define the long-term roadmap for Game AI and Embodied Intelligence - Serve as a technical bar-raiser for code quality and architectural design - Balance research exploration with production serving constraints - Mentor engineers and researchers - Collaborate with Product Managers, Backend Engineers, and Game Engine Engineers Requirements The role calls for deep experience in machine learning and applied research, especially in embodied agents and related areas. - PhD or Master’s in Computer Science, Applied Math, or related field - 7+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or Research Scientist - Experience in Imitation Learning, Robotics, Reinforcement Learning, Computer Graphics, and Vision - Experience with low-latency motor control and high-level strategic reasoning - Proficiency in Python and PyTorch/TensorFlow - Familiarity with C#, C++, or similar systems languages - Experience training models on large-scale distributed clusters - Understanding of inference challenges in real-time gaming environments Benefits Full-time employees are eligible for equity compensation and benefits. - Annual salary range: $345,040 to $399,420 USD - Office roles are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional Monday and Friday presence - Roblox offers equal employment opportunities and reasonable accommodations Source https://careers.roblox.com/jobs/7629843?gh_jid=7629843
